In vitro fertilization signifies “Fertilization in the Lab” rather than within the fallopian tubes. Aspirated ovarian follicles are examined in the embryology laboratory, and the eggs are recognized, extracted, and placed in a special culture medium. At that point, there are just two ways to fertilize the eggs:
The first method is called IVF-Insemination, not IUI or Intrauterine Insemination. In this method, approximately 25,000-100,000 processed sperm are placed around each egg, and the sperm and eggs are permitted to incubate together in a closely controlled environment. After approximately 16-24 hours, the eggs are inspected microscopically for fertilization, which is evidenced by the presence of two atomic bodies.
Benefits of IVF
IVF enables us to maximize the likelihood of fertilization by placing eggs. With our innovative embryo selection methods, including time-lapse observation and pre-implantation genetic screening, we can identify the embryo with the highest potential for pregnancy. If there are multiple viable embryos in the cycle, any remaining embryos can be frozen for use in future treatment cycles.
Why IVF could be advised
IVF is advised when sperm are prevented from fertilizing an egg in the entire body, such as in cases of fallopian tube damage or blockages. It may also be proposed in some cases of unexplained infertility or in mild cases of male infertility.
IVF – PROCESS
Initial Appointment
Your fertility specialist will review your medical history and all
previous investigations if any.
Pre-treatment Consultation
The fertility specialist will confirm your treatment plan, answer any queries, and sign the relevant consent documents.
Treatment
Beginning with the medication you need, this statement explains the treatment cycle timeline and shows you how to self-administer the Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) injections.
Stimulation
SH hormone stimulation can be administered using a pen similar to those used for diabetes treatment. This stimulates your ovaries to produce more eggs than they typically would. When more eggs are available, the chances of fertilization and pregnancy are increased.
Treatment Tracking
Throughout your cycle, routine blood tests measure your hormone levels, and ultrasounds measure the size and number of your ovarian follicles. This also helps us determine the proper period for the egg group.
Trigger injection
As Soon as You have the optimum size and number of follicles, we
plan your own egg collection. You’ll have a trigger injection of HCG
(human chorionic gonadotrophin) in the evening, and also the
performance for egg collection may happen 36 to 38 hours later. The
HCG injection replaces the natural Luteinizing Hormone in the human
body and ‘triggers’ or instigates ovulation.
Egg collection
Most women prefer a light general anesthetic, but you can have a regional anesthetic with sedation if you prefer. On the morning of your egg collection, a fresh semen sample will be provided by a male partner so that we can immediately fertilize your eggs.
Egg fertilization
Collected eggs are taken to the Laboratory and placed in a culture medium to prepare them for fertilization later that day. In IVF, ready sperm and eggs are placed together in a dish where fertilization occurs. In ICSI, an individual sperm is chosen by an extremely experienced embryologist. Also, under careful observation, the egg is injected with this sperm.
Embryo development
The sperm and egg are then put in individual incubators at 37 degrees to mimic the temperature of the human body. The next day, scientists will analyze the eggs to ascertain if fertilization has happened and will call you to advise you of this evolution of the embryos.
Embryo transfer
Embryo transfer is simple. The embryos are transferred into the uterus via a very fine catheter passed through the cervix, a procedure similar to a pap smear. Sometimes, we might advocate transferring embryos earlier.
Embryo freezing
Any additional embryos not used through the treatment cycle
Can be kept for an acceptable long time for freezing.
Pregnancy test
Blood tests will be done two weeks after the embryo transfer.
Sometimes, women can have periods even though they are pregnant.
Therefore this blood test will be done even if your period has started. If
The pregnancy test is positive, we will arrange an ultrasound scan
About three weeks later.
IVF Cost
The cost of IVF varies depending on the country or state in India you choose, and each individual case comes with different medical and health issues. Some may achieve pregnancy in the first cycle, while others may need multiple cycles to conceive. The cost of IVF in India starts from 1.5 lakh to 3 lakh, depending on the individual’s health report.
